Communication and Team Work
Golden Apple Tutoring recognizes that we need to be part of the team of people helping your child succeed academically. The tutors, therefore, work closely with both you, the parent, and your child’s teacher. Because we acknowledge that consistency is very important in learning, each tutor will work to develop both short and long term goals with both the parent(s) and the teacher(s) to help your child improve and achieve success.
Study Skills, Test Taking, and Organization Techniques
Golden Apple Tutors do more than help your student with homework and studying for quizzes and tests. In conjunction with every subject matter, each tutor teaches study skills and organization techniques. When appropriate, we teach test taking strategies such as how to find your own errors before turning in your test. Along with improving a student’s testing abilities, we also use past tests and quizzes to find and fix previous misunderstandings.
Monthly written feedback and evaluation
Communication is important for your student’s progress. Therefore, each month you can expect a summary of every tutoring session along with a short evaluation of your student’s progress and suggestions of ways you can help your student at home. This will be sent to you along with your monthly statement. We also desire feedback on how well the tutor is helping your student. After 4-5 tutoring sessions, please fill out the Tutor Evaluation Form your tutor gives you so we can know how we are doing and what we can do better.
You contract for what you need and
no more
Many tutoring companies require that you buy a package or a particular learning program—a specified number of sessions, which may or may not include an initial diagnosis. We don’t. You pay only for the number of sessions you want per week, with a one-hour minimum per week. Any additional time is at your discretion and by your choice. You can stop at any point. Any money you have pre-paid and not used will be refunded to you. You are in charge.
You get one-on-one attention
Many companies see your child in a small group setting of 2-4 students…we don’t. Your tutor works with your child on an individualized basis. You do not have to share a tutor with several other families, all of whom are paying the same fee as you are. We are not opposed to small groups. However, we have found that a truly individualized education program and one-on-one attention yields greater results and a deeper relationship of trust between the tutor and the child.
Little Paperwork
Some tutoring companies have complicated contracts and make you sign long term agreements to get help for your child…we don't. We have one simple contract for each school year. Once we place you with a tutor, you will contact the tutor directly regarding your needs, schedules, number of sessions per week, commitment length, etc. If you have to change tutors or if the tutor is not a good match for your child, we will be happy to place you with another tutor.
